For Ross McBride, design is both a hobby and a profession, and Dolly is an example of his functional and honest approach to design. Ross McBride explains: "For me, designing is like doing a jigsaw puzzle. If you can redefine a problem in a unique manner, you get a unique result. Challenges are what make being a designer so much fun. Dolly was the result of an experiment with shapes, and the round, quite funny and attractive shape fascinated me. The function as salt and pepper pots almost gave itself.
